The injector is a production Bosch HDEV4 outward-opening piezo-driven injector originally developed for gasoline applications. Internal x-ray scans of the injector have been performed by KAUST and Sandia, with a presentation made at ECN9.17. The geometry is described in this PPTX. Pintle lift measurements by KAUST when using 160 V as a driving voltage show that the pintle lift is greater than 0.035 mm, which has been associated with the production injector.
Using the measured geometry, KAUST (Abdullah Zaihi) created an STL file for internal flow CFD that has been modified slightly by Sandia (Steven Luna and Lyle Pickett). The recommended pintle lift for simulations at ECN10 is 0.0544 mm, based upon KAUST measurements. The table below presents several options for geometry/surface files for the injector:
File | Description | Credit |
General STL file including chamber (1.3 MB) | STL file of the injector with pintle lifted to 0.0544 mm, but not including the chamber. Voxel resolution of xray scan is 0.0058 mm. | Abdullah Zaihi, Hong Im, Moez Ben Houidi, William Roberts (KAUST) |
General STL file of injector without chamber (1.3 MB) | STL file of the injector with pintle lifted to 0.0544 mm, but not including the chamber | Abdullah Zaihi & Hong Im (KAUST) |
CONVERGE 4.1 .cvg file (3.1 MB) | STL file has been imported and regions identified within CONVERGE CFD format to permit moving-pintle simulations. The pintle is lifted to 0.0544 mm and z axis origin is defined as z = 0 with pintle closed. | Abdullah Zaihi & Hong Im (KAUST) with assistance from Steven Luna & Lyle Pickett (Sandia) |
ECN9.17 PPTX file (12 MB) | Discusses various cut planes from x-ray computed tomography and points out concerns about minimum flow area inside of the injector | Lyle Pickett, Bernice Mills & Steven Luna (Sandia) with KAUST STL file description |
